
Bill Shatz

Bill has been involved in lacrosse programs and activities for decades as a
player, coach, leader, and business executive. Regarded as an innovator in the
sport, Shatz is a recognized thought leader and architect of several innovations
and “firsts” including the lacrosse system that integrates the box and field
versions of the sport. He was one of the first to integrate performance training
and mental conditioning into the technical training of his program’s lacrosse
athletes, and introduced the “combine” concept to the lacrosse tryout process to
identify and select elite prospects.
As a coach, Bill has served organizations and athletes at virtually every
level, from youth through college levels including positions as Assistant Coach at
the University of Tampa and Assistant Coach at Florida Southern College.
As Director and Head Coach – National Team, Bill was the inspiration and
innovator behind the tremendously successful lacrosse program at IMG
Academy. As he launched the program nationally, his system and style of play
achieved national rankings and universal recognition as one of the best high
school prep lacrosse programs in the world. His National team was nationally-
ranked in the Top-20 over consecutive years. Over 70% of the student-athletes in
his program have gone on to play Division I lacrosse. Over the years, he has
trained and developed over 30 USA Lacrosse High School All-Americans, 22
USA Lacrosse High School Academic All-Americans, and 4 UnderArmour All-
Americans.
Presently, Bill is the Director of the U.S. Virgin Islands National Team
Program where he manages and coordinates the Men’s and Women’s
international box, field, and sixes teams. Bill is also the Head Coach for the
Cardinal Mooney Boy’s Varsity Lacrosse Program in Sarasota FL
Bill was inducted as a member of the USA Lacrosse Florida Hall of Fame
in 2018 and has served the national organization in a variety of roles including
appointments to the USA Lacrosse Selector Staff of the 2012 World
Championship U.S. National Men's U-19 team. Bill has served Florida for many
years as President of the North Florida Chapter and President of the Gulf Coast
Chapter.
A Long Island native, Bill led his Sachem High School teams in lacrosse
and hockey, where he was a two-year captain and two-time All-County selection.
As a four-year starter at attack for Ithaca College, he graduated as one of the all-
time top-10 leading scorers in school history.
